Tomás Pineda Matus

Biografía

Tomás Pineda Matus (b. 1968) is a Mexican visual artist from Chicapa de Castro, Juchitán, Oaxaca. He studied at the Taller de Artes Plásticas Rufino Tamayo in Oaxaca, where he trained in drawing, painting, ceramics, printmaking, lithography, and graphic design. Throughout his career, Pineda Matus has expanded his practice through specialized workshops and international residencies, including advanced painting studies with Luis Nishizawa in Guanajuato, experimental printmaking in Havana, and programs in the United States and Italy. His work, often informed by travel and cultural exchange, has been exhibited in galleries and museums across Mexico, Italy, Spain, Japan, Argentina, Indonesia, Uruguay, and France. An avid traveler, he frequently develops visual “travel notebooks” that capture impressions of diverse landscapes and cultures. In addition to his artistic practice, he has taught graphic design at the Universidad Mesoamericana de Oaxaca, contributing to the development of new generations of artists.
