Biografía

Santiago Carbonell began painting at age ten. In 1981 he presented his first exhibition, and is considered precursor of photorealism and a virtuoso of realistic iconography: the greatest representative of that genre inLatin America.He has lived in Ecuador, Spain and the United States to settle in Mexico. He studied painting in Barcelona and was part of a group of young people influenced by informalism, especially by the work of Antoni Tapiés. His work is realistic but combines elements of romanticism.In Mexico his artworks have been exhibited individually in the Museum of Painters in Oaxaca, Queretaro Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art in Celaya, among others. To mention some places his paintigs has been presented internationally in the Metropolitan Museum of Buenos Aires and Gerald Peters Gallery in Texas.
