Rodolfo Morales

Mexicanan. 1925

Biografía

A prolific painter of Mexican village life who merged aspects of surrealism with magic realism, Rodolfo Morales is best known for vividly coloured, dreamlike images that portray everything from sombre women engaged in daily chores to nuns riding bicycles, frolicking angels and lots of little dogs. Morales was also a noted philanthropist who used income from art sales to set up charitable foundations and fund restorations of historical buildings. He ensured that much of the restoration work was done by local women who, by developing skills, were able to find employment later elsewhere.
